Introducing Theo

Theo in the Spotlight: A Concert for Darfur is about a boy whose first steps into international philanthropy starts with a weekend with his grandparents, a television news report and a sleepless night.

Theo’s first act of international philanthropy – shoveling snow for donations - brings him great happiness! But why stop there? A record album in the cupboard, and grandparents who were there, lead Theo to restage George Harrison’s The Concert for Bangladesh, grade 4 style.

Although The Concert for Bangladesh happened over 35 years ago there is a sad sameness to what Theo has seen on the news about Darfur today and what was happening in Bangladesh way back then -- civil war, (war within a country), refugees (people leaving their homes and fleeing to safety) and children suffering from hunger and malnutrition. They were both humanitarian emergencies.

Like George Harrison, Theo would rather “play with a band” than be in the spotlight but he knows sometimes it is important to step to the front of stage even it’s “not your scene.”
